Getting Started in Retail 🏪

I started out in retail, working in a carpet department where I first discovered how much I genuinely enjoyed helping people. There was something rewarding about guiding someone toward a choice that would improve their home and make their space feel just right. It wasn’t just about selling a product — it was about understanding people and being part of creating a space they could truly enjoy.

Learning the Trade 🔧

On my days off, instead of putting my feet up, I’d go out with the fitters. I watched closely as they worked, picking up small details and techniques you simply can’t learn from behind a counter. Little by little, I started understanding the craft and building real hands-on knowledge.

The £5 Turning Point 💡

Sometimes, it only takes one small moment to change everything. For me, that moment came from a £5 Gumtree advert. It might not sound like much, but it completely shifted my path.

That one small advert took me from being an extra pair of hands to becoming a full-time carpet fitter, opening the door to a completely new direction.

Building Experience & Confidence 🏗️

From there, I spent eight years with a major carpet chain, gaining experience and developing real confidence in my work. Over time, I built a reputation for doing things properly — taking pride in quality and making sure every job was done right.

Going Solo 💼

Eventually, I decided to go out on my own, selling carpets directly and fitting them myself. It was a rewarding experience, allowing me to handle everything from start to finish and build real connections with customers.

But the physical toll of the job was real. Years of lifting, kneeling, and long days started to catch up with me. It wasn’t an easy decision, but I knew I needed to make a change — for my health and for my family.
