Moving Home – A Positive Step in Your House & Home Journey
Moving home sits somewhere between excitement and stress. During my relationship with my wife, we have moved three times, and each move has taught us something new about ourselves, our routines, and the process of starting fresh. We are now thinking about moving again around end of 2027, which gives us plenty of time to prepare and avoid over‑buying anything.
Before every move, we always declutter first. It is surprising how much you gather over the years without realising it. Decluttering reduces what you need to pack, makes the new home feel lighter, and can even help you make a little extra money — sometimes enough to cover fuel or hire a vehicle.
1. Decluttering Before You Move
Each time we move, decluttering is our first step. It helps reduce stress, clears out unused items, and gives you a fresh start before you even arrive at the new home. Selling unwanted items can also help cover small moving costs.
2. Planning Ahead Makes Everything Easier
With our next move planned for 2027, we are already being mindful of what we buy, how we organise cupboards, and how much clutter we allow to build up. Preparing early makes moving day far easier.
3. The Stress of Moving – And Why It Gets Easier
They say moving house is stressful, and it can be. But once the process begins, it often becomes easier. A few hours into moving day, once boxes start going into the van, you get into a rhythm and the stress begins to fade.
4. Watching the Floor Space Disappear – And Return Again
As you pack, the floor space disappears under boxes. But once you unpack in the new home, the space returns. The temporary chaos leads to long‑term calm.
5. We Can’t Always Control Why We Move
Sometimes we choose to move, and sometimes life pushes us into it. What we can control is how we approach it — with positivity, preparation, and acceptance. A move can improve wellbeing, especially if relocating for work or moving closer to the sea, which is a bonus where we live.
6. Moving Home as Part of Your Journey
A move is part of your personal journey. It shapes routines, memories, and the next chapter of your life. You can read more about my journey here: Me and My Journey .
7. Wellbeing and Moving Home
Moving home can support wellbeing. A new environment can lift your mood, inspire creativity, and help you reset routines. Being closer to nature or the sea can reduce stress and improve daily life.
